Motorkatamaran ('WAVE PIERCER')
24 metres
aluminium construction
Reaching far back in peoples history,
catamarans and multi-hull boats have been successfully used because of their stability
against tipping over, their simplicity in hull design and their potential for high speed.
We are experiencing a renaissance of these design principles particularly in the
commercial use of ferryboats and high performance boats.
What does wavepiercer mean ?
We use this name to
describe a motor catamaran where the hulls have only little buoyancy to enable them to
pierce through the waves, rather then climb on top.
The single hull, positioned above and
between the main hulls provides buoyancy when we encounter rather large waves. Above the
waterline this concept differs from conventional catamarans. It provides us with
exceptional advantages. Less vertical energy is lost because of less buoyancy at the stem
and more force is available to pierce the water. It results in a softer and more
comfortable journey than in a single-hull yacht.
The center hull of a wave piercer
"hangs" above the waterline to provide buoyancy when trailing waves reach its
height. Pitching and tossing occurs to a far lesser degree than in single-hull boats.
Wave piercer hulls are advanced high
performance half-displacers" This unconventional design provides economical
long distance travel at rather high speeds.
